Enter a charge amount and your Stripe rates, then press "Calculate".

Results are informational. Calculation is based on your input and public rules, official accounting may differ. For accuracy, confirm the final result if needed from the appropriate official source or specialist. See the terms of use.

How it works?

Stripe charges a blended fee consisting of a percentage of the transaction amount plus a small fixed fee per successful charge.

Fee = Charge × Percentage ÷ 100 + Fixed fee
Net payout = Charge − Fee
To receive exact net: Charge = (Net + Fixed fee) ÷ (1 − Percentage ÷ 100)

The fee is rounded to the cent, and in the "What to charge" tab the charge is the smallest whole-cent amount that leaves you at least the amount you asked for. The pre-filled rate is Stripe's standard rate named under the form; your own rate depends on your country, the cards your customers use and any custom plan.

Note: other cards cost more than the pre-filled rate. On an EEA account, premium EEA cards cost 2.8%, UK cards 2.5% and other international cards 3.15% (each + €0.25), and currency conversion adds 2%. On a US account, international cards add 1.5% and currency conversion 1%. Instant payouts and other Stripe products are charged separately.

Frequently asked questions

What are Stripe's standard fees?

Stripe's standard pricing depends on the country of your account. For an account in the EEA (e.g. Estonia) it is 1.5% + €0.25 for standard EEA cards, 2.8% + €0.25 for premium EEA cards, 2.5% + €0.25 for UK cards and 3.15% + €0.25 for other international cards, plus 2% if a currency conversion is needed. In the US it is 2.9% + $0.30 per successful card charge, and in the UK 1.5% + 20p for standard UK cards. Rates checked in October 2026 - see stripe.com/pricing for your country.

How do I pass Stripe fees to the customer?

Use the "What to charge" tab. Enter the amount you want to keep after fees, and the calculator works out the gross charge using the formula: Gross = (Net + Fixed fee) ÷ (1 − Percentage ÷ 100). Be aware that in some regions, surcharging customers for card fees may be restricted - check local regulations.

Why is the effective rate higher than the percentage fee?

The fixed fee per transaction (e.g. $0.30) has a bigger impact on small transactions. For a $5 charge with 2.9% + $0.30 fees, the effective rate is 8.9%. For a $500 charge, the same rates produce an effective rate of just 2.96%. This is why Stripe is relatively more expensive for low-value transactions.

Does Stripe charge fees on refunds?

Issuing a refund is free on standard pricing (bank-transfer refunds can cost a fee), but Stripe does not return the processing fee of the original payment - in any country, for full and partial refunds alike. A refund made shortly after the payment may go through as a reversal, for which Stripe keeps no fee.

Are there cheaper alternatives to Stripe?

For high-volume businesses, Stripe offers custom pricing. Alternatives include PayPal (3.4% + €0.35 for a domestic payment in Estonia, 3.49% + $0.49 in the US), Square (mainly in-person payments in the US) and Adyen (interchange++ pricing). The cheapest option depends on your transaction volume, average order value, and whether you need in-person payments. Stripe's main advantage is developer experience and global reach.
